Gasperini’s team, after two league defeats against Napoli and Cagliari, bounced back in the Europa League against Celtic, winning 3-0 at Celtic Park thanks to a brace from Evan Ferguson. Two well-organized teams with a clear identity will face each other at the Olimpico. Monday night’s match will also be a clash between the best defense in the league, that of the Giallorossi (8 goals conceded), and the second-best defense in Serie A, that of Como (11 goals conceded, tied with Milan and Lazio).

Here are the words of Como 1907 head coach Cesc Fàbregas ahead of Roma-Como:

“I’m very curious and I think it’s a positive thing to face so many matches close together in January. It’s a new experience for me, for the players, and for the club: when you have little time to prepare for a game, you have to manage everything differently.

“I believe the defeat in Milan was entirely my responsibility. The players gave everything, they ran hard and tried their best. There are things to improve, both on my side and theirs, but this team has shown quality and a great attitude. In the last 25 matches, we’ve lost three: two against Inter and one against Bologna. The team competes, never gives up, and always wants to play with identity. That’s what I want to see: where we are and where we want to go.

“In Rome, I expect a physical match against a team that will attack us and has a lot of quality up front. We know Gasperini will prepare a game where we won’t have any breathing room. We’ll need a great performance if we want to bring home points.”

Roma

The Giallorossi, who will line up in Gian Piero Gasperini’s traditional 3-4-2-1 formation, will be without the suspended Celik, a real pillar of Roma’s defense so far this season. While Roma have the best defense in Serie A, they are also among the bottom ten teams in the league in terms of goals scored, with just 15. In attack, Gasperini has tried out various combinations, fielding either two second strikers and a center forward, Artem Dovbyk or Evan Ferguson, or alternatives with a ‘false 9’, in this case Paulo Dybala or Tommaso Baldanzi, in an attempt to give opposing defenses fewer points of reference. In the first half of the season, the Giallorossi’s key player has undoubtedly been Matias Soulé, who has scored four goals, working as a true attacking playmaker on the right wing and inside. In a team as intense, organized, and physical as Roma, Bryan Cristante and Manu Koné, a midfield duo with complementary characteristics, are excelling, providing balance and rhythm to Gasperini’s team. The impact of Brazilian winger Wesley, who arrived in the summer from Flamengo and immediately became a key player in the team, has also been significant. He has been used on both flanks, exploiting the verticality he can provide to offensive maneuvers, as demonstrated, for example, in the goal scored against Cremonese.

Shielded by the Cristante-Koné pairing, the Giallorossi’s three-man defense of Mancini, Ndicka, and Hermoso has been phenomenal so far this season, although Ivorian Ndicka may not be available for the match due to his departure for the Africa Cup of Nations.

Previous encounters

The two teams have faced each other 16 times in Rome, with Roma winning 11, drawing four, and Como winning one. Como’s only victory came in the 1949/59 season, in the first ever match between the two clubs in the capital. Lipizer’s goal proved decisive in the 1-0 final score.

Heather O’Reilly: “It Is a Wonderful Opportunity to Play at the Sinigaglia, It Adds Value for Women’s Football in Como and Italy” https://comofootball.com/en/heather-oreilly-it-is-a-wonderful-opportunity-to-play-at-the-sinigaglia-it-adds-value-for-womens-football-in-como-and-italy/ Fri, 12 Dec 2025 17:05:24 +0000 https://comofootball.com/heather-oreilly-giocare-al-sinigaglia-e-unopportunita-fantastica-e-una-grande-vetrina-per-il-calcio-femminile-a-como-e-in-italia/ Ahead of the match between Como 1907 Women and San Marino Academy, which will take place on Sunday, December 14, at 2:30 p.m. at the Sinigaglia Stadium, Head of Women’s Football Heather O’Reilly commented on the event: “ Every time we do, it is an honor for the players, and fantastic visibility for the community to see these incredible players live. The players train hard every day and are putting on a great product, and more exposure to it only adds value for football here in Como and across Italy”, continuing then with the right attitude to have: “Football seasons have highs and lows. Sport is like that because it is an art of human beings, and all the things that go with it. What is critical is hard work, consistency, and respect, and the team has great leaders who have led us through any storms. The important thing in football is to not let the tough moments stick around too long and get back on track as quickly as possible, and we have done that” And the progress of the season: “We are incredibly solid from front to back, and we are creating many chances every single game. Confidence in front of the goal will be important, as well as game management,  as many teams are after us now and treat our game as the biggest of the season.  We need to ride that emotion and prove that we are true professionals and see games out. A combination of winning the physical battle and the mental one is what will separate us. Being focused on the current moment is huge because we do not want to think too far ahead.  That is dangerous. We still have over half the games to play and a lot of time. Constant communication and respect between the team and staff will help with those goals. We have many capable people working with us, on and off the pitch, as long as we work in the same direction, I believe we can be unstoppable”.

The big match on the shores of the lake is scheduled for Sunday, December 14, at 2:30 p.m., with free admission at this link: https://tickets.comofootball.com/fixtures/femminile.

Como 1907 x Quelli che con Luca Onlus https://comofootball.com/en/como-1907-x-quelli-che-con-luca-onlus/ Thu, 11 Dec 2025 14:42:10 +0000 https://comofootball.com/como-1907-x-quelli-che-con-luca-onlus/ On Wednesday, 10 December, Como 1907 players from the Primavera squad, Francesco Andrealli, Cristian Mazzara and Italo Bulgheroni, together with first-team goalkeeper Jean Butez, visited patients at the Maria Letizia Verga Centre in Monza.

The Lariani met young patients in both the day hospital unit and the inpatient ward of the Maria Letizia Verga Centre, bringing them small gifts on behalf of the Como 1907 family. The delegation then toured the Fondazione Tettamanti at San Gerardo Hospital in Monza, which, among other initiatives, supports the “Quelli che… con Luca ONLUS” project.

Following the annual meeting with researcher Dr. Sarah Tettamanti, players and staff saw first-hand how research continues to advance year after year, supported in part by Como 1907’s initiatives. This year again, on the occasion of the Como–Genoa match, proceeds from the sale of the club’s 2024/2025 third kit, along with part of the match revenue, were donated to “Quelli che… con Luca ONLUS”. Progress in the fight against pediatric myeloid leukemia continues to accelerate, supported not only by medical teams but also by those who work tirelessly outside the hospital to advance the cause.

Looking ahead to next year, there is strong hope that the first patients will be treated with relapsed or refractory acute myeloid leukemia using CAR-T therapy. This therapy was developed at the Fondazione Tettamanti laboratory at San Gerardo Hospital in Monza, thanks to funding from the “Quelli che…con Luca ONLUS” project.

“It was an important experience for me and for the Primavera players this morning. Supporting a place like this is essential, and even bringing a smile is an integral part of contributing to research,” said Jean Butez at the conclusion of the visit.

Como 1907 extends its heartfelt gratitude to the Maria Letizia Verga Centre for the warm welcome and for offering the Biancoblù family a meaningful moment of growth.

A special thanks goes to the Centre’s doctors and researchers, whose daily work stands as a true example of dedication and hope.

To them, and to the entire Maria Letizia Verga community, we send our sincerest wishes for a Merry Christmas.

Como 1907 Women’s Team–San Marino Academy: Ready for a Special Sunday https://comofootball.com/en/como-1907-womens-team-san-marino-academy-ready-for-a-special-sunday/ Wed, 10 Dec 2025 14:17:22 +0000 https://comofootball.com/como-1907-femminile-san-marino-academy-pronti-ad-una-domenica-speciale/ On Sunday, 14 December, at 14:30, the Giuseppe Sinigaglia Stadium will once again open its doors to women’s football. Having recently hosted the Italian national team for a friendly against Japan, the iconic ground overlooking Lake Como will now welcome our women’s first team side, who will play their 12th Serie B match against San Marino Academy.

The Bianco Blu, led by coach Selena Mazzantini in her first year in charge of Como 1907 Women, currently sit top of the table with 25 points, four clear of second-placed Cesena Women. In a particularly demanding league such as Serie B, where only one team earns promotion to Serie A at the end of the season, there is very little margin for error. The Lariane have so far recorded eight wins, one draw, and one defeat in a first half of the season that has already presented a number of unexpected challenges.

The hard-fought 0–1 win in Brescia, the 3–0 home victory over Venezia on a heavy, rain-soaked pitch, the defeat in Verona followed by the crucial win away at Cesena, and the last-second three points claimed against Trastevere: we are only in the opening stage of this campaign, yet this group has already shown character, personality, and unity, even though much of the squad arrived only this summer, immediately embracing this ambitious project.

Solidity is perhaps the most fitting word to describe Le Bianco Blu’s start to the season, solid as a group and defensively resolute, having conceded just five goals in ten matches, the best record in the division. With Fabiana Fierro in goal, fresh from a series of outstanding performances (particularly in Cesena), the position is in safe hands, while Emma Mustafic, born in 2006, has also earned her place. In coach Mazzantini’s four-woman defence, the flanks are occupied by Francesca Pittaccio on the right and Federica Rizza on the left, both summer arrivals from Sampdoria and Parma respectively. In the centre, several players have featured so far, including Elena Pisani—distinguished for her marking and ability on the ball—the young Giulia Trevisan (born in 2004), Federica Veritti, Denmark’s Cecilie Sandvej, and Ludovica Falloni, with Louise Eriksen also making a number of appearances.

The midfield has been equally impressive. Of the 22 goals scored by Como, making the Bianco Blu the third-best attacking side in the league, many have come, directly or indirectly, from this unit. Sofia Colombo, who joined in the summer from Sampdoria, is enjoying a highly productive season in front of goal, scoring five times from her role on the flank. Alongside Denmark’s Louise Eriksen and Slovenia’s Dominika Čonč, a regular for her national team, who provide balance in midfield, contributions from Elena Nichele (clinical in scoring the winner in the head-to-head against Cesena), Claudia Saggion (consistently intense and decisive), and Rossella Sardu (a key figure thanks to her experience and leadership) have been equally vital.

Wearing the captain’s armband and linking midfield with the attack is Vero Boquete, a true legend of women’s football. The first Spanish player to be nominated for the Ballon d’Or and the first to win the Champions League, lifting the trophy with FFC Frankfurt in 2015, the number 87, born in Santiago de Compostela, arrived on the shores of Lake Como last summer, bringing her exceptional technique and remarkable poise to strengthen the group both on and off the pitch. Leading the line are Elisa Del Estal, six goals to her name, making her the team’s top scorer and the third-highest in the league, thanks to her physical presence and pace, and Giusy Moraca, known for her flair and creativity. Roberta Picchi also plays a crucial role: a forward whose physicity and energy allow her to influence matches significantly, as she demonstrated against Trastevere, scoring the decisive goal in the 91st minute. The team can also count on the contributions of Martina Gelmetti and Adriana Martín, as well as Claudia Zorzetto and Kristin Carrer, who are currently injured but remain essential members of this special group.

The match at Sinigaglia on December 14 will certainly be an excellent opportunity to shed new light on women’s soccer, in a setting different from the usual, but it will also be a great opportunity to get to know these players, each with their own unique qualities and characteristics, and this group, at a stage in a journey that we hope will end in the best possible way.

Natale Con le Palle 2025 – XV Edizione https://comofootball.com/en/natale-con-le-palle-2025-xv-edizione/ Wed, 10 Dec 2025 14:08:44 +0000 https://comofootball.com/?p=188993 Wednesday, December 10, from 6:30 PM in collaboration with Como 1907 and Accademia di Como Aldo Galli

Once again this year returns one of the most anticipated appointments of the Christmas period in Como: Natale con le palle, the charity event conceived in 2009 by the artist Enzo Santambrogio, now in its fifteenth edition. As tradition dictates, the evening will be hosted by Davide De Ascentis and Cesare Roncaglio at their venue, Krudo in Piazza Volta.

To celebrate the milestone of fifteen years, the 2025 edition is enriched by a special collaboration with the sports club Como 1907, the city’s emblematic team, and with the Accademia di Como Aldo Galli, one of the most established and dynamic educational institutions in the area. The meeting of art, sport, and community becomes this year the guiding theme of the initiative.

This synergy will be interpreted by ten young artists in their second and third year of the Painting and Visual Languages course, led by the art critic and course coordinator Ivan Quaroni, who will work alongside the historical protagonists of the initiative. For the first time in the history of the event, all artists have been invited to engage with a common theme chosen by the organising committee: “Como 1907”, a tribute to the Larian team which in recent years has managed to bring back enthusiasm and a sense of belonging to the Como community.

On this matter, Ivan Quaroni underlines: “Seeing our students of Painting and Visual Languages confront a popular and identity-driven theme such as Como 1907 is a fine test of maturity. The students have brought into Natale con le palle what we ask of them every day: imagination, discipline, and the desire to engage with the realities present in the territory. For the Accademia di Como Aldo Galli – IED Network, it is natural to intertwine our educational work with the civic life of Como. Como is not just a team: it is a piece of local iconography, a symbol that everyone recognises instantly. Putting art and football in dialogue may seem bold, but it is often these combinations that generate the freshest ideas. This group of students has demonstrated this with enthusiasm and seriousness, transforming a sporting theme into an exercise of perspective and creativity.”

The established artists invited to participate this year will be Fabrizio Bellanca, Filippo Borella, Elena Borghi, Marco Brenna, Lorenzo Butti, Lorenza Ceruti, Francesco Corbetta, Andrea Greco, Marlo Montoya, Fabrizio Musa, Gemma Pettinaroli, Enzo Santambrogio, Vania Elettra Tam, together with the young artists Aria Pontinelli, Elisa Martinelli, Elena Varisco, Sofia Vinci, Elettra Gobbi, Alessia Pedersini, Alice Barcella, Nicole Montagnoli, Jaki Vavassori and Giuseppe Picardi.

As tradition dictates, each established artist will donate ten works in the size 10 × 15 cm, while the students of the Academy will produce one work each. The 140 works will be framed by CB Cornici, technical sponsor of the event.

During the evening, it will be possible to purchase a token worth €40 to try one’s luck at the famous ball-dispensing machine, a simple and fun gesture that combines play, art, and charity. All proceeds will be donated to the InfraMente association, which is engaged in combating violence.

The appointment is for Wednesday, 10 December at 6:30 pm at Bar Krudo, Piazza Volta – Como: an opportunity to celebrate together art, solidarity, and the city of Como, commemorating a collaboration that puts creativity, sport, and social commitment into dialogue.

Como 1907 Strengthens Its Social Commitment by Supporting Our Furry Friends as Well https://comofootball.com/en/como-1907-strengthens-its-social-commitment-by-supporting-our-furry-friends-as-well/ Tue, 09 Dec 2025 17:59:05 +0000 https://comofootball.com/?p=188839 This year, the Club will stand alongside Parco Canile Valbasca, a key facility for the reception and care of abandoned dogs in the Como area, managed by the Como Section of E.N.P.A. – the National Animal Protection Authority.

Como 1907’s support for the Valbasca Canine Park stems directly from the participation of its fans. All proceeds from the sale of products in the Pet Collection, the Club’s dedicated line for dogs, will be entirely donated to the shelter, providing concrete contributions to ensure care, housing, and well-being for the animals hosted there.

The Club supports this initiative because it strongly believes in responsible adoption, volunteering, and education in animal respect, principles that align with the social mission of Fondazione Como ETS, which aims to involve the community in meaningful support actions. Through this collaboration, fans and citizens are encouraged to reflect on the importance of caring for animals, choosing responsible adoption, and recognizing the value of volunteer work.

These guiding principles also define the work of Parco Canile Valbasca, which accommodates up to 100 dogs within a facility spanning over half a hectare. The structure includes kennels equipped with sheltered night areas and open-air daytime spaces, large exercise zones, shared play areas, and dedicated green parks. It is not merely a shelter: it is an educational center that promotes knowledge and respect for animals, raising awareness about responsible and mindful coexistence between people and dogs.

Each year, the facility welcomes dogs from more than 80 municipalities in the province of Como, providing veterinary care, sterilization, and psychological support, all the way through to the search for a new family. Thanks to the commitment of volunteers and the support of ENPA, every dog lives in a safe and comfortable environment, while the values of solidarity, care, and animal protection are shared with the entire community.

As an ENPA facility, the Valbasca Canine Park fully embraces the association’s mission: ensuring animal welfare, protecting them from mistreatment, promoting adoption, and supporting their medical and psychological recovery. In addition, through its volunteer Animal Protection Officers, ENPA collaborates with Public Security authorities to monitor cases of abuse and to combat illegal activities involving animals, offering further protection to the dogs housed in the shelter.

With this collaboration, Como 1907 reaffirms its commitment to supporting essential local organizations, ensuring that the Club’s values of solidarity, community and social responsibility extend beyond the pitch, reaching those who have no voice: our beloved dogs.

Un Natale Speciale 2025: Como 1907 Meets Young Patients at the Sant’Anna Hospital https://comofootball.com/en/un-natale-speciale-2025-como-1907-meets-young-patients-at-the-santanna-hospital/ Fri, 05 Dec 2025 18:31:57 +0000 https://comofootball.com/un-natale-speciale-2025-como-1907-incontra-i-piccoli-pazienti-dellospedale-santanna/ Como 1907 returned this year to visit the Pediatrics Department of Sant’Anna Hospital in San Fermo della Battaglia (CO). This initiative renews an important annual tradition for the Club, which is committed to bringing comfort and a sense of closeness to young patients and their families during the Christmas season.

This year, midfielder Maxence Caqueret and goalkeeper Mauro Vigorito visited the children in the ward, bringing smiles and a moment of light-heartedness, accompanied by a blue-jersey teddy bear in Como colors.

The teddy bear is a special gift created as part of the “A Special Christmas” project, made possible thanks to donations from employees of Como 1907 and SENT. Now in its second edition, the initiative is an example of social and corporate responsibility, highlighting the Club’s commitment to supporting the local community. Throughout December, the teddy bears adopted by employees and destined for young patients will be distributed at Sant’Anna Hospital and Sant’Antonio Abate Hospital in Cantù.

The first team will instead contribute through donations aimed at purchasing medical equipment or devices to meet the specific needs identified by healthcare professionals. Last year, with the support of the players and staff, the department received seven “Tytocare” devices (https://comofootball.com/en/raphael-varane-visits-santanna-hospital/).

Dr. Angelo Selicorni, head of the department, expressed his gratitude to Como 1907: “On behalf of the entire ASST Lariana community, I would like to thank the employees of Como 1907 and SENT for the thoughtful gift dedicated to our young patients. The presence of Mauro Vigorito and Maxence Caqueret, together with their great empathy, brought smiles and moments of genuine lightness to our ward. Gestures like yours remind us of the precious bond that unites sport, community, and solidarity.”

The players’ visit was followed by another meaningful moment. Liam, a border collie from the Valbasca Shelter, the local branch of E.N.P.A., visited the children and delighted them with a brief Pet Therapy session organized in collaboration with hospital staff. The initiative had a dual purpose: marking the beginning of future collaborations with the Valbasca Shelter and promoting the Club’s commitment to raising awareness about volunteering and responsible adoption.

Como 1907 thanks ASST Lariana for its support in this project and for renewing the collaboration year after year.

Inter–Como: Match Preview https://comofootball.com/en/inter-como-match-preview/ Fri, 05 Dec 2025 17:42:10 +0000 https://comofootball.com/inter-como-match-preview/ The match scheduled for late Saturday afternoon at San Siro promises to be a high-intensity, fast-paced game between two teams separated by just three points in the standings. Inter, just one point off the top, go into the match against Como following a 2-0 away win at Pisa thanks to a brace from captain Lautaro Martinez. Como, meanwhile, go into the match at the Meazza in sixth place in the table after beating Sassuolo 2-0 at home.

This fixture also presents an intriguing contrast: Inter are currently the league’s most prolific attack (28 goals, one more than second-placed Bologna), while Como have the best defensive record in Serie A (just seven goals conceded, level with Roma). Saturday promises to be a spirited battle between two of the league’s most proactive and dynamic sides.

Here are the words of Como 1907 head coach Cesc Fàbregas ahead of Inter-Como:

“Thank you to all the fans who will be with us tomorrow. This year, unfortunately, we’ve played many matches without them, and we felt their absence. Tomorrow, when I walk onto the pitch and look up at the third tier, I’ll feel immense pride. Our supporters deserve to enjoy moments like this, they give us so much, and we want to give something back.

“We’re a young team with plenty still to learn, and an evening like this is a wonderful opportunity for us. The players handle the pressure well, we’re a strong group, and I truly enjoy working with them every day.

“For us, there is no other way than continuing to build on the work we’re doing, knowing we’re facing a very strong side full of top players. We’ll go out there with the right mentality and ambition to play our game. We know we’ll need to deliver a perfect performance.”

Inter

Under Christian Chivu, the Nerazzurri have retained the 3-5-2 formation that characterised the team under Simone Inzaghi, while introducing some significant changes to their style of play. Although maintaining a positional approach, with constant rotations to disrupt opponents and maximise passing options, Chivu’s side now play with greater verticality than before.

Inter’s 28 goals in 13 league games reflect a highly effective attacking strategy. Their strength lies in the ability to occupy the penalty area and its edges, creating space for both wingers and forwards to exploit. The usual attacking duo of Thuram and Lautaro is now complemented by key contributions from Bonny and Pio Esposito. This allows Inter to fully utilise the physical presence and finishing ability of their forwards. The Nerazzurri currently have the league’s top scorer, Lautaro Martinez (six goals), alongside second-top scorer Hakan Calhanoglu (five goals, tied with four others).

At the start of the season, Inter’s attacking emphasis has led to some defensive vulnerability.  With 13 goals conceded, the Nerazzurri have the weakest defensive record among the top eight sides. Despite these defensive difficulties, the Nerazzurri added a player during the summer who immediately proved to be one of the team’s pillars: Manuel Akanji. Arriving from Borussia Dortmund, the Swiss defender is proving to be as fundamental in defense, aerial duels, and set pieces as he is in supporting the offense with his ability to drive forward with the ball at his feet.

Previous encounters

In Milan, Inter and Como have met 16 times: 14 wins for the home side, one draw, and just one win for Como. The Lariani’s last victory at the Meazza came on 14 May 1950, when goals from Rabitti and Ghiandi secured the historic triumph.

Como’s most recent goal at San Siro came in a Coppa Italia match on 30 October 1991, when Mazzoleni found the net. Tomorrow, the Bianco Blu will aim to end this long-standing streak.
